I have a new roof!

I am so happy.  You just cannot imagine the happiness I feel.  A roof.  A roof over my head.  A secure roof with no broken trusses or holes.  I am smiling from ear to ear.  I know this sounds silly to say one can get so excited over a roof, but it's true.  I am thrilled.  This is the first step in the restoration of my home.  My sanctuary.  My nest.  The roof is so pretty.  It sounds funny to say it is pretty, but it is a pretty roof.

A short list of chores still to come:
  • Drywall - the drywall guy came today and gave me an estimate.  It was higher than the insurance adjuster figured, but we will see if we can get her to change her mind.  :)
  • Paint
  • Clean carpet - when we have the carpeting cleaned, we will know immediately if we need to replace it.  If there is a strong smell of mold, the carpeting goes.  *between you and me, I think there is going to be mold.  I've seen the evidence, but I'll play by the insurance rules.*
  • Deck replacement - fingers crossed, this will start next week.
  • Window replacement - just ordered the window yesterday.  It will take six weeks to come in.
  • Remove all trees leaning AWAY from the house - I have no idea when we will start on this.
  • Remove trees in back yard - these trees fell into our back yard, but these were trees growing on common (*read, community center property)  We will have to deal with the HOA on this.  (Oh, I'm on the board of the HOA.  It will be interesting to see how this goes.)
  • Have a Merry Christmas?  I hope so.  :)

  3. Congrats on the heat pump.  I'm sure that's what you got, but I just guessing.  You're gonna notice  a HUGE drop in your electric bill.  Gonna LOVE it.  :)

  6. Great roof.  I love trees so can't comment on removal of those.  I wish that there were more trees to provide shade and grace.

  9. You'll sure be safe and sound with your new roof!  It is
important to check for leaks before the heavy rains begin or you may suffer
from water seeping into the house.  :D I'm glad
there are tips like this for people who don't want to spend much on repair
    services.

  10. You got a new pretty roof! :D It's hard to feel at ease with a leaked roof, especially during the rainy season. I can't imagine my roof being blown away by a gust of wind. Hehe. I also do maintenance as soon as I see problems with my gutter systems.

  11. That’s certainly a bright, beautiful roof! The roof
repair is an exciting update for your home, and it looks like you are very
happy about it. Just remember to keep your roof clean, and have it checked for
maintenance on a regular basis. This will help maximize the life span of your
    roof.

  12. Wow!
Your new roof is indeed very striking! You should probably remove those tree
branches from your roof as a preventive measure. Proper roof maintenance
requires that it should be clean, free from debris (like leaves), and have
    clear, and unobstructed drains.

  13. It’s been a year since you posted this blog, I’m hoping that your roof is still in good condition.I understand the happiness you felt when you had your new roof.Aside from the exquisite design of your roof, the comfort that it has given your family is really a soothing relief.Being free from leaks or being protected from extreme heat and heavy
rains can give a sense of security to the entire family.

  14. That was a nice new roof you had installed. Great choice of color! It really complements the overall structure design of your home; it adds to the sophistication of the house as a whole. Always try to maintain it, so you don't have to kiss it goodbye any time soon.

  15. Your new roof is indeed nice! And getting the roof done is a good start in restoring your home.  By the way, what happened to the other chores on the list? I hope you did an excellent job, just like what you did on the roof.

  16. That’s not silly at all!
Having a new roof is certainly something to be excited about! A roof is an
important part of the house, and it’s good to know that you have a fresh new
roof that would protect the house and those inside it. And after seeing the
roof, I’m not surprised you’re excited! It looks like it will serve you for a
    long time.
